Our History
Heart of Louisiana Credit Union has a rich history dating back to 1955 when it was first organized. Initially, its field of membership exclusively encompassed employees of the United States Department of Agriculture, serving those working in Louisiana under the supervision of USDA offices located in both Alexandria and Pineville. This original connection formed a strong “occupational” common bond among its members.
As the credit union evolved, it expanded its reach by welcoming additional groups into its fold. While many of these groups were not directly affiliated with the original group or with each other, they all shared the common thread of being individual employee groups, fitting neatly into the occupational common bond category.
In a significant development in 2005, the credit union achieved “underserved status,” opening its doors to an even broader field of membership. This expansion allowed anyone residing, working, worshiping, attending school, or operating businesses and legal entities within the Greater Alexandria Underserved Area to become members. This encompassed several parishes, including Rapides, Winn, Allen, Natchitoches, Evangeline, Concordia, Catahoula, LaSalle, Avoyelles, and Grant.
