Contactless Cards
Contactless cards are coming!
Heart of Louisiana Credit Union is upgrading all debit and credit cards to contactless technology. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about what this means for you.
What is a contactless card?
A contactless card allows you to make payments by tapping your card on a contactless-enabled terminal.
Will new cards look the same as my current card?
No. Our new contactless debit cards will have a refreshed design and a new look compared to the previous red cards.
Why am I receiving a contactless card?
Heart of Louisiana is converting existing chip cards to contactless to make transactions faster, safer, and more convenient.
Will my card number change?
No. Your card number will remain the same; however, your expiration date and CVV will change for security reasons.
Will my PIN stay the same?
You will be prompted to create a PIN when activating your new card, but you may choose to keep your existing PIN.
Is there a fee for the new contactless card?
No. This card reissue is provided at no cost. Future reissues due to loss, damage, or other reasons may incur a fee (see fee schedule).
When will I receive my card?
Due to the volume of cards being reissued, cards are expected to begin mailing in late February, with delivery continuing through April and May (or sooner!)
Can I continue using my old card?
Yes. Your current card will continue to work until you activate your new contactless card. Once activated, please securely destroy your old card.
How do I activate my new contactless card?
Activation instructions can be found on the white sticker on the front of your new card.
Is contactless payment safe?
Yes. Contactless cards use secure encryption, transaction limits, and PIN verification for added security.
What should I do if I don’t receive my reissued card?
If you haven’t received your card within the expected timeframe, please contact us in person or by phone at (318) 619-1900.
Do I need to update my card details for existing merchants and subscriptions?
Yes. Because your expiration and CVV numbers have changed, update your new card details for any merchants, subscriptions, or online payments.
If the merchant doesn’t accept tap, will I still be able to swipe/insert chip?
Yes! You may still swipe or insert your card wherever contactless is not available.
Will my expiration date remain the same?
No. Your new card will have a new expiration date and will be valid for 4 years, instead of the previous 2 years.
Will my new card be available to use in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?
Not at this time! You will receive updated correspondence once this feature becomes available.
Does this change only apply to debit cards?
No. If you have both a debit card and a credit card with us, both will be reissued to support contactless payments.
If you have additional questions, please contact us or visit your nearest branch. We’re here to make this upgrade smooth and simple.
