Three easy ways to protect yourself from identity theft
The only person who should be you is you! Identity theft is a serious problem and can cause years of damage and disruption and possibly a lot of money to repair. Here are three easy ways to protect yourself from identity theft.
1. Use eStatements and electronic delivery of documents whenever possible.
One of the easiest ways to get your identity stolen is through the mail. Thieves will either intercept your mail or steal it right out of your mailbox! Electronic documents are more secure and don’t run the risk of being stolen out of your mailbox.
2. Change your passwords often (and make sure they are secure passwords)
Another easy way to protect yourself from identity theft is to create strong passwords and change them often. Use a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols in your passwords. Make a habit of changing passwords regularly and don’t use the same password for multiple sensitive accounts.
3. Shred your old documents
Your trash or recycle bin is not a safe place for your personal information. Shredding your documents keeps any paper documents you no longer need safe from theft.
By doing these three things, you can significantly minimize your risk of identity theft!
